WLC 300: WLC Major ProSeminar
This course introduces students to the majors in Japanese Language and Culture, Spanish or World Language and Cultures. Students acquire knowledge and understanding needed to fulfill Major Learning Outcomes for the programs. Students identify and work with a major advisor to develop individual learning plans. The course examines opportunities in related professional and career paths, including graduate education and teaching credential preparation.
WLC Major Proseminar is designed to be taken as soon as possible once a student declares language and culture as their major. Since I was only a student here for three semesters and this class is only offered in the fall, I didn't end up taking it until my second to last semester (fall 2017). It was taught in turn by the department professors which was fun as we were exposed to and got to know the Japanese and Spanish professors that we don't see very often. During this class we took a field trip to the Middlebury Institute which I very much appreciated. For the first time I could imagine myself going on to grad school some day. It was also during this class that we were first introduced to the Capstone Project. It was good to get an overview of what to expect from the project. Another memorable moment was with Dr. Pozzi when she arranged for us to have live video chats with former graduates. It was really interesting to see how people were using their hard earned degrees.
