SPAN 300: Pre-Capstone for Spanish Majors
Directed toward Spanish majors preparing for their Capstone experience, this 2 unit course aims to guide the student in the process of completing a capstone proposal and initiating the preliminary steps toward the graduation portfolio. The portfolio provides evidence that a student is making satisfactory progress toward meeting the Core requirements and Major Learning Outcomes (MLOs) for the Spanish B.A.
Course Reflective Narrative
This class is designed as a precursor to the Span400 Capstone class that we will take in the Spring of our graduating year. For me, this class gave me a good chance to explore the ideas I have for my Capstone project. It also allowed me the opportunity to network with my fellow Spanish majors and find a partner to do my project with. Having Professor Gomez available to ask questions and receive guidance from was helpful in developing an idea for my Capstone.
Initially, I had a hard time deciding on an appropriate topic for my Capstone. I wanted to do a project that was historically based, but I was told by the Professors in the department that since this is not a major in the history department I needed to chose a topic that was culturally base. The name of the major is: Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. Therefore the capstone needs to be based on language and/or culture. Eventually I came up with a topic that had a cultural component, although my partner and I are still struggling with finalizing our idea. Thankfully, we have another semester to sort it out.
