Course Narrative
This was another great class with Dr. Rafael Gómez. Dr. Gómez is another of my favorite professors here at CSUMB. I always try to take his classes even though he likes the 8am time slot. Dr. Gómez creates a friendly and professional learning environment where his students are invited and expected to participate. This class was all about Spanish literature. We used a great textbook that was organized effectively and easy to follow. The class was taught entirely in Spanish and my language skills improved tremendously throughout the semester. We read all sorts of literary pieces from the Middle Ages through the Twentieth Century. Reading so many literary excerpts in so many different genres really tested my reading abilities in Spanish. At the beginning of the semester I really struggled to get through the first readings. I had to stop frequently to look up words I didn't know. By the end of the semester I was able to get through entire readings with only looking up one or two critical words that I wasn't able to use context clues to figure out. Profesor Gómez has been one of the most influential professors during my time at CSUMB, and I will miss taking his history and literature classes.
